Possibilities

Hope emerges in the thick of winter, on this side of the winter solstice, when the sun starts to lengthen our daylight hours in the northern hemisphere. More light means greater visibility. More visibility means greater clarity. More clarity means greater inspiration. Even tightly closed buds on branches anticipate the bloom ahead.

So what does your bloom look like in the cave of imagination when the season is still, perhaps, entrenched in a slow hibernation?

Where are you going? What dreams will unfold? We’ve practically traversed this year’s entire first month, and it’s time to welcome not only the external illumination of lengthening daylight, but also, the internal illumination of hopes and dreams.

As I look up and out the tall window of my study, I see bare tree branches reaching to the heavens in a network of crisscrossing lines, not unlike the intersecting junctions on a map. And somehow trees (young or old) and maps (ancient or new) always speak to me of possibility.

So, I throw out a challenge in this freshly-turned year…
Where and how will you journey (metaphorically and/or literally) in order to bloom well?

When your heart and your mind are engaged, you cannot go wrong.
—Yo-Yo Ma

Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
—Philippians 4:8

Let’s do it!
